KARACHI, Feb 8: The Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (Reap) has appealed the prime minister to direct the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) not to stop their trucks from plying on the main road of SITE area in Karachi.
In a communication issued on Tuesday, the chairman REAP, Haji Abdul Majid, lamented that the trucks loaded with rice going to the SITE area were meant for export, but under restriction imposed by the FWO, the movement of trucks carrying rice has been stopped.
He said the FWO had repaired the main SITE area road but, thereafter, stopped plying of rice trucks on this road where rice godowns were located. Besides, there are several rice processing plants in the SITE area, from where a large number of export consignments are despatched.
Mr Majid appealed to the Prime Minister to intervene and save the export of rice, which is about to touch one billion dollar mark this year.
