KARACHI, Jan 20: As the competitions of the International Schools Educational Olympiad are in full swing, excitement coupled with an ever-growing sense of urgency mounts amongst students participating in the event.

Friday, third day of the Olympiad, began with the grand quiz competition which was conducted by the famous quizmaster Barry O Brian from India who was also accompanied by Andrew Scolt.

Young minds taking part in the quiz struggled to match wits in the areas of general knowledge, current affairs, and entertainment trivia as Quizmaster Barry O Brian kept the session lively and interesting with his witty remarks and entertaining humour.

The teams that scored first position in the quiz competition include Beaconhouse School Systems (Gulshan Branch), whereas second and third positions were scored by Aga Khan Higher Secondary School and Generations School.

Other events of Olympiad 2006 that were also held on Friday included the debate competition on ‘morality is a product of fear’ and the chess tournament, which is a new competition introduced for the first time in the Olympiad. The first three rounds of the chess competition were held on the day, while the remaining rounds are to continue over the next two days of the Olympiad.

Judges for debate contest included Summayya Usmani, Marcus Gilbert, Azhar Jamil, Sue Gilbert and Zara Hussain Shahid.—APP
