PPP backs anti-dam rally

By Our Correspondent

KHAIRPUR, Jan 14: The President of the Sindh PPP, Qaim Ali Shah, has announced that his party will participate in the rally on January 18 in Hyderabad against proposed construction of the Kalabagh dam. He was speaking at a gathering of party workers at cake cutting ceremony of Z. A. Bhutto’s 78th birth anniversary, arranged by the Kolab Jial chapter of the PPP on Saturday.

He said the rally would be another referendum against the Kalabagh dam after the rally in Karachi.

Mr Shad questioned the campaign of General Musharraf for constructing big dams when there was acute shortage of water. He said unemployment was on the rise while the government was busy in creating a fuss over the dam.

Speaking about by-elections in Kashmore, he said the election commission admitted that rigging had been done but did not take any action against officers involved. He said that rigging in the Kashmore by-elections proved that the local body elections were not fair.
