KARACHI: Causes of renal failure discussed


KARACHI, Dec 23: Diabetes and hypertension contribute to 60 per cent of chronic renal failures in the country, while 50 per cent of renal failure induced deaths are due to cardiovascular complications.

Experts highlighted the fact here on Friday at a workshop organized for postgraduate medical students and house physicians, by the JPMC’s Nephrology Department .

Prof Syed Ali Jaffar inaugurated the two-day workshop, largely attended by junior doctors from different facilities.

Senior nephrologists and urologists in their presentations while seeking urgent steps to sensitize masses about prevention of the serious health conditions also identified organ transplantation as the most effective treatment modality for renal failure.

JPMC Director, Prof Mashoor Alam Shah was the chief guest. Dr Bilal Jameel, Dr Muzzamil Hussain Usmani, Dr Manoher Lal, Dr Rafi Ansari, Dr Rizwan Hussain, Dr Anwar Ahmed explicitly discussed different aspects of the serious health condition.—PPI
