Turkish engineer’s death condoled

ISLAMABAD, Dec 20: Pakistan Ambassador to Turkey Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah and some embassy officials on Tuesday visited the residence of second Turkish engineer Ufuk Arsalan who died on Monday of burn injuries he had suffered during rescue work in the earthquake-hit areas of Pakistan.

The ambassador remained with the bereaved family for some time and expressed deep condolences with the engineer’s father, Fikrat Arsalan.

The ambassador said that Mr Ufuk had won hearts of the Pakistani nation. “In fact, his sacrifice has strengthened and solidified our century-old friendship,” he said.

Mr Fikrat said they owed a lot to Pakistani Muslims who had contributed for the Turkish war of independence.

He requested the ambassador to rename some street or road in the name of his son. The ambassador said that he would take up the matter with the government of Pakistan.—APP
