Turk engineer dies after fire in Pakistan quake tent ANKARA, Dec 18 (AFP) - A Turkish engineer has died from severe burns he sustained during a fire in a tent city in quake-ravaged Pakistan, Anatolia news agency reported Sunday. Geological engineer Cenk Yakin, 30, went to Pakistan as part of a Turkish project to build homes for victims of the massive tremor that hit the country on October 8. He died Saturday evening in an Ankara hospital, where he was transferred in late November. Two other Turkish engineers were injured in the incident, which Pakistani officials blamed on quake survivors who set fires too close to or inside temporary shelters. Turkey was the first country to send aid to Pakistan and dozens of its citizens are still in the country helping with relief and rebuilding efforts. (Posted @ 18:23 PST)

EU to give $30 m more aid for quake hit areas ISLAMABAD, Dec 18 (APP): European Union will give a further 30 million dollars in aid to areas hit by the earthquake on October 8. The money will be used to help pay for more blankets, tents water and fuel for people affected by the major earthquake, BBC TV reported. (Posted @ 16:51 PST)

AFC-Relief Donation for rehabilitation of quake affectees KARACHI, Dec 18 (APP)- The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has extended a donation of 200,000 dollars for the rehabilitaion of October 8 earthquake affectees. This was stated by the President of Pakistan Foodtball Federation (PFF), Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat. He pointed out that he had attended a meeting of the AFC which was organized recently in Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur. Makhdoom Faisal, who is also the Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, said that he was informed at the meeting that AFC in collaboration with the International Association of Football Federation (FIFA) will increase this amount substantially. He hoped that the enhancement in the donation on this count would be three to four times more. The PFF chief said that the money would be utilized for the rehabilitaion of the earthquake affectees in Azad Kashmir and Northern area. (Posted @ 16:50 PST)

Foreign medical teams arrive to care quake victims Mansehra, Dec 18 (PPI) Two medical teams from Iran and Bosnia-Herzegovina comprising about 40 doctors, lady doctors, para-medics and journalists arrived in Mansehra and Garhi Habibullah Saturday to provide medical services to quake-survivors of the region. Hectic engagements of ICRC at quake-hit areas MUZAFFARABAD, Dec 18 (APP): International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) spokesperson Ms. Jessica Barry has the ICRC had made hectic efforts to provide relief to the survivors of the Oct 8 earthquake in NWFP and Azad Kashmir. Giving details, she said so far some 18,000 tarpaulin, 5,000 tents, 78,000 blankets besides kitchen sets have distributed in remote and high altitude areas of Azad Kashmir. She said the ICRC had added two more helicopters to its fleet to complete the task before the start of full winter season and snowfall. A water filtration plant has been installed in Muzaffarabad and five foreign engineers and six field officers are working with local health department to ensure supply of clean drinking water to the people. ICRC has also set up a field hospital in Muzaffarabad, and basic health units in Chinnari and Patika areas where some 124 foreign and 350 national health workers are providing medical facilities.
