Army provides 12,000 kerosene oil heaters to quake survivors Islamabad Dec 17 (PPI) Pakistan Army has provided 12,000 kerosene oil heaters to quake-stricken people in tent villages at high altitude areas of the NWFP says an ISPR press release. Meanwhile, Army Engineers with the assistance of local people, workers of National Volunteer Movement and NGOs have constructed more than 28,000 temporary houses and handed them over to the victims. At the same time, about 300 people have come down from the hills of Kaghan valley and lodged in tent villages at Balakot. An NGO of Pakistani community in Denmark has collected 40,000 tents, sleeping bags and blankets for the quake-hit people. Jakob Norman-Hansen and Hamayun Butt said relief goods donated by the people and organizations in Denmark, is being handed over to Federal Relief Commissioner. Meanwhile, an additional week-long vaccination drive with the inclusion of two more vaccines, meningococcal meningitis and Td for children begins from Monday next in all the relief camps.(Posted @ 10:20 PST)

Qatar Princess visits tent village Islamabad Dec 17 (PPI) Her Highness Shaikha Al-Maesa ,daughter of the Emir of Qatar, Friday visited a Tent Village set up by a Qatar charity and handed over documents for establishing an industrial home for women where they will get training in various skills particularly handicrafts, tailoring and embroidery for a period of three months. During the three months training the trainees will get stipend besides cash to purchase material and equipment like sewing machines to run their home based project . Lady Instructors will be hired from the quake ravaged areas. On the occasion the Princess distributed winter wears among women. Medical teams from Iran, Bosnia-Herzegovina arrive in quake hit areas ISLAMABAD, Dec 17 (APP): Medical teams from Iran and Bosnia-Herzegovina comprising of 40 doctors, paramedics and journalists arrived in Mansehra and Garhi Habibullah Saturday. The 18-member Iranian medical team will provide treatment and medicines to quake victims in Garhi Habibullah.(Posted @ 15:27 PST)

British boxer urges help for Pakistan quake victims MUZAFFARABAD, Azad Kashmir, Dec 17 (Reuters) British boxer Amir Khan visited earthquake survivors in northern Pakistan on Saturday and said the world must not forget their plight and must do more to help. Khan travelled to Pakistan with Britain's Oxfam aid agency. "It's really very upsetting to see the plight of the earthquake survivors," Khan said as he visited a tent camp in the south of the devastated city of Muzaffarabad. Khan met students in a makeshift school in the Chattar Klass camp and told them how he first got interested in boxing.He sat among the youngsters as they sang songs and later showed off some fancy moves with a little sparring. Khan said he had brought 50 storm-proof shelters with him, which he hoped would keep at least a few people warm.(Posted @ 15:25 PST)

Gen. Ahsan Hayat meets affectees, NATO troops in AJK Rawalpindi, December 17(PPI) Vice Chief of Army Staff General Ahsan Saleem Hyat visited earthquake stricken areas of Arja and Bagh in AJK on Friday, met the affectees and assured them that Pakistan Army will strive for earliest possible rehabilitation. Team of Karachi microbiologists begins services in quake-hit areas KARACHI, Dec 17 (APP)- A five-member team of microbiologists from Karachi headed by Prof. Dr. Shahana Urooj Kazmi has set up a lab in Mansehra in collaboration with Pakistan Medical Association and is providing microbiological services besides carrying out tests pertaining to various diseases as well as those regarding water, sanitation and antibiotic susceptibility. MQM delivers more relief goods to quake victims KARACHI, Dec 17 (APP): Volunteers of Muttahida Qaumi Movement distributed relief goods among 450 families in quake ravaged areas of Mansehra and Muzaffarabad while the medical teams of MQM’s Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation provided healthcare services to about 1300 injured on Friday, says a Press release.
