Pakistan Army hectically engaged in rehabilitation of quake survivours ISLAMABAD, Dec 11 (APP): Troops of Pakistan Army Engineers and Frontier Works Organisation, since their employment in affected areas immediately after the earthquake, have done extremely well in restoration of road communication, removal of debris, provision of clean drinking water to the affected people, reconstruction of damaged buildings and construction of shelters for the needy people. According to ISPR, more than 14 engineers battalions were employed immediately after the earthquake in various areas of Azad Kashmir and NWFP for restoration of road network. The troops of Army Engineers accomplished this arduous task of opening of road well ahead the estimated time. Particularly the opening of Neelum Valley road within 40 days was a task impossible. After 62 days since earthquake hit in Azad Kashmir and NWFP the Army engineers are still busy in their area of responsibility and are constructing shelters and maintaining long stretches of roads. US sends more supplies as Pakistani quake survivors face winter ISLAMABAD, Dec 11 (AFP) - The US Agency for International Development (USAID) Sunday said it had brought in additional plastic sheeting sufficient to winterize the shelters of an additional 17,500 families in quake-hit areas of Pakistan. "As the onset of winter increases the hardships faced by many quake survivors, these supplies become more crucial," a statement issued by US embassy in Islamabad said. USAID has so far provided more than 60.1 million dollars in humanitarian assistance and food aid to earthquake-affected communities through non-governmental organizations and the United Nations, it said. A total of 45,000 blankets, 1,570 winterized tents, and 6,150 rolls of plastic sheeting have already been distributed that helped winterize shelters for 215,250 people, it said.(Posted @ 20:42 PST)

MQM sends 10,000 blankets to Islamabad for quake survivors KARACHI, Dec 11 (APP): Muttahida Qaumi Movement has supplied to Islamabad 10,000 blankets imported from India for onward transportation to the quake-affected areas. The cost of these blankets has been borne by MQM-USA Unit, a statement said Saturday. Meanwhile, a consignment of tents and sleeping bags, arranged by MQM-USA Unit, had also reached Karachi from China, the statement added. (Posted @ 09:16 PST)

25 more truckloads of tents, blankets sent to quake-hit areas LAHORE, Dec (APP): Punjab government Saturday despatched another consignment ply of 25 truckloads of tents and blankets to quake-ravaged areas Azad Kashmir and NWFP. 12 trucks have been sent to Islamabad, six to Mansehra, three to Muzaffarabad and one each to Bagh, Rawalakot, Butgram and Balakot, says a handout. Immunization campaign to commence in quake-hit areas from Monday ISLAMABAD, Dec 11 (APP): Minister of Health, Muhammad Nasir Khan will launch immunization campaign for measles and other infectious diseases from December 12 (Monday) for the children upto seven years of age in the earthquake affected areas of AJK and NWFP, a high-level meeting chaired by federal health secretary on Saturday decided. Meanwhile, the Executive Director of National Institute of Health (NIH), Islamabad presented report of the NIH team of specialists about the eight camps in Mansehra district which it visited recently. The team advised the authorities to set up more latrines at Charrar Road, Qarshi Foundation and Nawaz Sharif “Khaima Bastis” to overcome congestion and to prevent outbreak of infectious diseases. The meeting ordered immediate supply of 73 wheel chairs to the District Headquarters Hospital, Rawalpindi. The meeting was informed that out of 1265 trained LHWs in AJK, 1130 (80 percent) were on duty. In NWFP, out of 2017 LHWs, 1990 were on duty, while 17 were missing and 10 died in the earthquake.
