JUI law- makers for speedy reconstruction in quake- hit areas Peshawar, December 10 (PPI)A parliamentary delegation of JUI led by MNA Sheikhul Hadith Maulana Amanullah Haqqani and comprising provincial ministers, Senators, MNAs and MPAs during visit of earthquake affected areas of NWFP directed the district administration of Swat to accelerate the relief, reconstruction and rehabilitation work , particularly the completely or partially damaged houses and buildings. At a briefing they were informed that 559 houses were completely destroyed while 5080 were partially damaged; some blocks of Saidu Group of hospital buildings, Jehanzeb College and Central Jail Swat were badly affected and have since been declared dangerous . They were informed that Rs. 1,625,000/-have been paid to the heirs of the 8 martyred and 37 injured persons.(Posted @ 17:55 PST)

Former Japanese PM presents cash donations of Yen 400,000 for quake survivors ISLAMABAD, Dec 10 (APP): Former Japanese Prime Minister Tsutomu Hata visited Pakistan Embassy in Tokyo to make a cash donations of Yen 400,000/- to Ambassador Kamran Niaz for the earthquake-survivors on behalf of the Roppongi Chorus Club. Japanese donations in cash and kind for the quake victims in Pakistan, collected by the Pakistan Embassy in Tokyo,to-date, total more than Yen 150 million.(Posted @ 15:12 PST)

Maqbool sees off 250 students to quake-hit areas under NVM LAHORE, Dec 10 (APP): Governor Punjab Khalid Maqboolsaw off 250 students of Universities Chapter of National Volunteer Movement (NVM) to the quake-hit areas Saturday morning from the Punjab University Law College sports ground, New Campus. One hundred students from the Ounjab University and 150 from other universities in the province would join relief operation and stay in different quake-affected areas for ten days. These volunteers in batches of 10, would assist other agencies engaged in the rehabilitation process. The Governor said PU and the University of Engineering & Technology (UET), had been working on compilation of a report about the estimated loss, future needs and proposals for reconstruction. Each university would also launch a research project in its specialized area, like agriculture, healthcare and psychological applications etc. The University of Education would send 300 teachers to the quake areas to provide teaching facilities, he added. Earlier, the PU acting VC, Prof Dr Arif Butt said the varsity employees and academic staff had donated 2-days salary, while the departments had collected Rs 1.3 million for relief of the quake survivors.(Posted @ 15:00 PST)
