KARACHI, Nov 29: Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Altaf Hussain has warned that conspiracies are again being hatched against the party, as certain organizations and individuals are busy reviving the Haqiqi faction to pitch against the mainstream party.

However, he made it clear that unlike 1992, when most of its workers had gone underground, the situation this time would be different, says a press release of the party.

Addressing general women workers meeting in Azizabad, Altaf Hussain said that the party was much stronger than ever before. It had its roots among the farthest corners of Sindh where its units and offices were working with full vigour.

Two of the founding lady members, Kishwar Zehra and Zareen Majeed, announced to be back in the party fold after a gap of nearly 15 years. Mr Hussain welcomed them to the party fold and asked the women wing members to cooperate with them fully.

He said that the party had also won acclaim in the NWFP and Azad Kashmir, where locals had publicly announced their support to the MQM after seeing its relief and rehabilitation work.

This, he added, was a major breakthrough made possible only through hardwork, dedication and commitment which workers and volunteers had demonstrated since Oct 8.

Even in Punjab, the party was gaining roots and the day was not far off when the party would have a countrywide support and backing in elections.

He alleged that some of the influential organizations and individuals, perturbed by the development, had started reviving and reorganizing the rival Haqiqi group to counter the Muttahida.

Mr Hussain disclosed that he was in touch with the higher ups, and had sought the help of President Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to check these elements.

Describing Haqiqis as terrorists, he disclosed that they had infiltrated the ranks of religious parties, the proof of which was the recent attacks on MQM workers and camps in quake-hit areas as well as attempts to disturb the academic peace in Karachi by IJT members.

The Muttahida, he said, would frustrate all designs being hatched against it, but simultaneously he asked the party cadres to be mentally ready for any future challenge. The party, he said, would take on the conspirators on a country-wide basis.
