PESHAWAR, Nov 26: An accountability court on Saturday adjourned the hearing of a corruption reference against Peshawar city district nazim Haji Ghulam Ali after he did not appear before the court.
The court, presided over by Miftauddin Khan, has set the date of the next hearing for Dec 3 and ordered Mr Ali to attend the proceedings on that day without fail.
Counsel M. Sardar Khan filed an application on behalf of Mr Ali, who is a front-line leader of the JUI-F, and requested that the latter be exempted from making a court appearance on Saturday.
Mr Ali and 12 of his associates, including his father and three brothers, had been indicted in the reference filed against them by the NAB.
The NAB has charged Mr Ali, who remained a councillor of Peshawar Municipal Corporation on various occasions, of possessing assets to the tune of Rs305 million, which is disproportionate to his known sources of income.
He was arrested on April 13, 2001, but was released after the Supreme Court granted him bail.
