Inzamam key to Pakistan revival, says Imran Khan LAHORE, Pakistan, Nov 25 (AFP) - Former Pakistan captain Imran Khan on Friday was all praise for Inzamam-ul-Haq, saying the current skipper had played a major role in reviving the country's fortunes in international cricket. "Inzamam has revived the team's fortunes and, the way he batted in the second Test, he has proved he is the best batsman under pressure," Khan told AFP. Imran Khan said Inzamam was a better batsman than even West Indian Brian Lara and India's Sachin Tendulkar when it came to batting under pressure. "No batsman in modern era, including Lara and Tendulkar, can play better than Inzamam when the chips are down," he said but felt that Inzamam could serve his team better if he batted higher in the order. Replying to another question Imran said Pakistan should continue playing attacking cricket in the third and final Test, starting here from November 29. "Pakistan need to put more pressure on England rather than going defensive," he said. Inzamam handled his bowlers well in the first two matches but “I think paceman Mohammad Sami has been struggling and needs direction from someone like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis or Aaqib Javed," Imran said. Queen opens Commonwealth summit with warning on poverty VALLETTA, Nov 25 (AFP) - Queen Elizabeth II opened a 53-nation Commonwealth summit Friday with a warning that more work still needed to be done to tackle rampant poverty around the world. The summit in the Maltese capital Valletta, which brings together leaders representing some 1.8 billion people, is expected to focus mainly on fears of developing countries that trade barriers will restrict their economic growth. In her speech, the British monarch said "much still remains to be done" if UN targets to halve the number of the world's poor are to be achieved by their 2015 deadline. In his opening comments, Commonwealth Secretary General Don McKinnon said there was still time for poorer nations -- the majority of the club of mainly former British colonies -- to influence World Trade Organisation talks in Hong Kong next month, despite pessimism about progress towards a new global trade deal.He said that if the Commonwealth could give the deadlocked negotiations "a shot in the arm," then the body would have shown its worth. British memo to EU accuses Israel over Jerusalem LONDON, Nov 25 (AFP) A confidential British Foreign Office document accused Israel of rushing to annex east Jerusalem to prevent it from becoming the capital of a Palestinian state, The Guardian newspaper reported Friday. It said the memo was put before EU foreign ministers on Monday as part of Britain's turn at the European Union presidency, although no immediate decisions were taken on it. "Israeli activities in Jerusalem are in violation of both its roadmap obligations and international law," the document said. The document also claimed that Israel's controversial concrete security barrier was being used to expropriate Arab land in and around the ancient city. The Guardian said EU foreign ministers put the issue on hold until next month under pressure from Italy, which according to the newspaper's sources, is seen by Israel as its most reliable ally within the 25-nation European Union. An Israeli foreign ministry spokesman told the newspaper that Israel believes Jerusalem "should remain the united capital of Israel". (Posted @ 11:03 PST)
