Inzamam’s record feat

FAISALABAD, Nov 24: England hung on for a draw in the second Test at Iqbal Stadium after Inzamamul Haq scored a record 24th hundred for Pakistan.

England survived some anxious moments after collapsing to 20 for four under a barrage of short balls from Shoaib Akhtar and shrewd bowling from Rana Navedul Hasan, and dug in to reach 164 for six when bad light ended play.

But the day belonged to Inzamam, who converted his overnight 41 not out into his second hundred of the match to become Pakistan’s top century-maker while moving ahead of Javed Miandad, who had made 23 centuries in 124 Tests.

The 35-year-old hit nine fours and a six in 134 balls to set England a big victory target and enable his bowlers to put some pressure on the visitors.

“Inzamam played two fantastic knocks and he was the difference between the two sides,” said England captain Michael Vaughan after the match.

The series now moves on to Lahore for the third and final Test from Nov 29, which England must win to save the series.
