Tea prices

NAIROBI, Nov 24: Kenya’s tea prices were mixed at this week’s auction, with some easing because of a dip in quality, and the quantity sold rose, dealers said on Thursday.

Mombassa-based Africa Tea Brokers said there was improved demand for the 122,858 packages offered at the auction, compared with 115,357 packages last week. Out of the total 122,858 packages offered, 9,418 were unsold compared with 15,474 unsold last week.

Brighter Best Pekoe Ones (BP1s) fetched between $1.95 and $2.63 per kg compared with $2.00 and $2.80 at the last auction. Brighter BP1s saw good demand but declined by between $0.02 and $0.15 and more following quality.—Reuters
