5-goal Taimur steers team to victory

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Nov 20: A five-goal burst from Taimur Mawaz Khan helped Spring Meadows lift the CJ Lvsine Cup defeating Equestrian 8-5 in the final on Sunday.

In the first chukker the two teams scored 2-2.

Ahmed Zubair, who scored four for the losers, drew the first blood scoring a field goal after a long chase.

Soon Taimur restored the parity converting a 40-yard penalty hit with a lifted shot.

Spring surged ahead 2-1 as Ali Rizvi banged home with a field goal. Ahmad rushed to rescue Equestrian by scoring his second goal from a narrow angle to put his side on an even keel at the end of the first chukker.

In the second chukker, Equestrian again gained 3-2 lead when Saeed Aslam Khan capitalized on a fine pass from Ahmed.

But the lead proved short-lived after Spring’s four-goal rally in the third chukker.

Junaid Ahmed scored a field goal with a lofted shot to equalize the score 3-3 while Taimur struck back to back to put Spring 5-3 ahead. Muhammed Reza Said consolidated the lead 6-3 in the dying minutes of the game scoring a field goal with a back handed shot.

Both the teams added two goals each in the fourth chukker. Ahmed Zubair scored two goals for Equestrian while Taimur for the winners.

Four goals by Sufi Muhammad Haris propelled Welness Pharmaceuticals to win third place beating Sherwood 7-4.

Ali Malik (2) and Faaiz Rahim Khan (1) were the other scorers. Taimur Ali Malik fought well as he slammed all the four goals for the losers.
