Jam Yousuf hails fund pledges

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, Nov 20: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Mir Mohammad Yusuf has welcomed pledges made by the world community for quake victims, saying it is due to the clear vision of President Pervez Musharraf that the world community has positively responded to Pakistan’s appeal.

He said it was also due to Pakistan’s foreign policy and its close relations with the world community and depicted that Pakistan enjoyed a special place in the comity of nations.

“The success story is linked with better fiscal discipline, economical and financial policies of the government.

The world considers Pakistan a stable country ready to play a bigger role in the world,” the chief minister added.

Mr Yousuf said that local resources were insufficient to meet the huge expenses of rehabilitation and reconstruction of the quake affected areas. It was clear that the government alone could not meet that challenge.

He welcomed the active support and cooperation of UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, who attended the donors conference to make it a success.
