Pakistan arrests three more suspects in Karachi bomb attack KARACHI, Nov 17 (Reuters) Police arrested three more suspects on Thursday after a car bomb attack this week killed three people outside the Pakistan Industrial Development Corp. (PIDC) building, housing a KFC fast-food outlet and offices of state-run Pakistan Petroleum (PPL). Mazoor Mughal, deputy inspector general of police, said officers found explosive material used for bomb-making, two pistols and a rifle the pre-dawn raid at the suspects' hideout in eastern Karachi. All three suspects, Aziz Khan Baloch, Mangla Baloch and Jabbar Baloch, belonged to the Baluch Liberation Army (BLA), Mughal said. Covered in sheets from head to toe and handcuffed, the three men appeared before an anti-terrorism court in Karachi, where they were remanded in custody until Nov. 24. Mughal said they had admitted their role in the attack. Police were hunting for more suspects, Mughal added.(Posted @ 16:50 PST)

Cricket-Pakistan's Ahmed and Malik reported for bowling action LONDON, Nov 17 (Reuters) Pakistan bowlers Shabbir Ahmed and Shoaib Malik have been reported for suspected illegal bowling actions after Pakistan's first test against England in Multan, the ICC said on Thursday. India to release 26 Pakistani civil prisoners tomorrow New Delhi, Nov 17 (APP): India will release 26 more Pakistani civil prisoners, languishing in different jails and hand over them to Pakistani authorities at Wagah check post tomorrow. The status of these prisoners has been confirmed after completing the process of consular access, a senior official at Pakistan High Commission here said. The consular access to 181 Pakistani prisoners has been completed, whereas the Pakistan High Commission has sought access to another 218 prisoners to determine their national statu and secure their release. Of the 26 prisoners to be released tomorrow is a Pakistani Journalist Sajid Bashir who has spent fourteen years in Indian incarceration and completed his sentence three year ago, informed sources said adding, he is being released on the strict orders of the Indian courts.(Posted @ 22:15 PST)

Ruling party wins 68 pct of seats in Egypt vote CAIRO, Nov 17 (Reuters) The ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) won 68 percent of seats in the first stage of Egypt's parliamentary elections, official results showed on Thursday. Justice Minister Mahmoud Aboul Leil said the NDP, which is headed by President Hosni Mubarak, won 112 seats out of the 164 contested in the first of three stages of voting. Iraq wants Saddam’s nephew extradited from Yemen BAGHDAD, Nov 17 (Reuters) Iraq has asked Yemen to extradite a nephew of former president Saddam Hussein so that he can face charges of "committing acts of terror", the U.S. military said on Thursday. Twenty-two French nationals identified in anti-US insurgency PARIS, Nov 17 (AFP) A total of 22 French nationals were formally identified as having joined the anti-US insurgency in Iraq and at least two of them were dead in suicide attacks, interior ministry officials said Thursday. Hizbul Mujahedin condemns wave of deadly bombings in Occupied Kashmir SRINAGAR, Occupied Kashmir, Nov 17 (AFP) Hizbul Mujahedin Thursday condemned a wave of bombings that killed ten civilians and injured 120 others this week in Occupied Kashmir. "We condemn both the incidents. Our group is against incidents in which civilians are killed," a statement from the group carried by the Kashmir News Service said. Sri Lankan voting ends, rebel boycott saps turnout COLOMBO, Nov 17 (Reuters) Polling ended in Sri Lanka's close-fought presidential election on Thursday, but voter turnout was sapped in the island's north and east by a Tamil Tiger rebel boycott and sporadic violence marred the poll. Police said two suspected rebels blew themselves up while building a bomb in the country's restive east, while several people were also injured in grenade attacks, but monitors said the poll was among the calmest in years. Two U.S. soldiers face court martial over Afghan abuse KABUL, Nov 17 (Reuters) Two U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan will face court martial for abusing detainees, a U.S. military statement said on Thursday. The soldiers are accused of striking a pair of detainees and maltreating them in custody. The statement said the incidents took place in the central province of Uruzgan, but It didn't say when. Free trade area to boost South Asian trade: Indian PM NEW DELHI, Nov 17 (AFP) Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Thursday said the creation of a free trade area in South Asia would more than double the size of the market in the region within two years. Addressing business leaders from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, Singh tried to reassure smaller neighbours that a South Asian Free Trade Area (SAFTA) would be beneficial. US defends use of military trials for 'war on terror' suspects KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 (AFP) The United States on Thursday defended the use of military trials for "war on terror" suspects, which have been suspended following a ruling by a federal judge. "We believe that it's important that people engaged in acts of terrorism against the US or against US allies be brought to justice," visiting US Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez told a news conference. US soldier dies in Iraq BAGHDAD, Nov 17 (AFP) - A US soldier has died of wounds sustained in a roadside bomb explosion in northwest Baghdad, the military announced Thursday. Bush stands by US position on reactor for North Korea GYEONGJU, South Korea, Nov 17 (AFP) - US President George W. Bush reiterated Thursday that North Korea would not get the atomic energy reactor it wants until it dismantles its nuclear weapons program. "The issue really is the light-water reactor. Our position is that we will consider the light-water reactor at the appropriate time.
