Russia,Uzbekistan pledge mutual help against threats MOSCOW, Nov 14 (Reuters) Russia and Uzbekistan on Monday signed a pact committing the two ex-Soviet allies to helping each other in situations that posed a security threat to either of them. The raid early Monday followed a tip-off that the drugs had been smuggled from Afghanistan to Pakistan's rugged Bibi Karaiz area close to the border, a paramilitary commander said. The raiding party recovered 942 kilograms of morphine, 295 kilograms of hashish and 37 kilograms of opium, he said. Two Central Reserve Police Force troopers and two civilians were killed. "Security forces have cordoned off the area. Intermittent firing is continuing," a spokesman said. In the first attack, a man rammed his car into a patrol vehicle belonging to the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) killing the German soldier and himself. Shortly afterwards, a second car blast killed two civilians about three km along the same road, witnesses said, adding that they heard a small explosion and gunfire a little later. Police said this was also a suicide attack, adding that another two peacekeepers were wounded. A Taliban spokesman telephoned Reuters soon after the first car bomb to claim responsibility.(Posted @ 20:28 PST) Iraq bombs kill 12; US troops pursue campaign BAGHDAD, Nov 14 (Reuters) Roadside bombs killed a dozen people in Iraq on Monday, while U.S.-led forces launched the latest phase of an offensive against insurgents near the Syrian border. Three people who appeared to be Westerners were killed by a roadside bomb near the heavily fortified "Green Zone" in central Baghdad. Police said they were Americans but that could not be independently confirmed. Six civilians died when a similar device hit two passenger coaches in Ramadi, a violent city west of the Iraqi capital. Another three people were killed and four more were wounded when a roadside bomb exploded in a busy commercial street in eastern Baghdad, police said. Further west in Anbar, U.S. and Iraqi forces began the latest phase of their operations. Meeting under the chairmanship of President Jacques Chirac, the cabinet agreed on a bill to maintain the state of emergency which came into effect last Wednesday under a 50-year-old law. The army said eight other suspected Hamas militants were detained during the operation. Palestinian witnesses said Hanawi was shot in the head from close range, but the army denied this. A fleet of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy has already left towards the Arabian Sea via northern zone to join the Pakistan Navy. Defence Sources said the Chinese naval fleet comprised two ships, a missile destroyer and helicopters. It will be the first ever combined maritime drill by the Chinese navy in alien sea areas, likely to take place from November 21 to 24. The two navies will focus on items in non-traditional areas, such as joint search-and-rescue operation. The rebels entered the town late Sunday night in small groups, cut off power in areas around the jail and attacked the prison.
