PHF inducts Manzoor, Akhtar as selectors

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Nov 12: Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) on Saturday appointed Manzoorul Hassan and Akhtarul Islam selectors on Saturday. Akhtar, who acted as manager of the Sindh Qalandars which won the first Super League in Karachi in September was inducted in place of former Olympian Islahuddin, who is likely to be given another post in the federation.

Islahuddin neither attended any meeting of the national selection committee nor watched trials since he was appointed selector after Pakistan team failed at Athens Olympics last year.

The former captain is also serving as director international wing of the PHF.

Islahuddin is likely to be appointed director of the PHF, one of the three posts being created in the PHF after getting the approval from the forthcoming meetings to be held in Lahore on Nov 18.

Other two new posts are of director development and director media.

Manzoor, who has been transferred by his department PIA from Jeddah office to Rawalpindi recently will fill the place of Saeed Khan, who has been serving as the Pakistan team manager. Saeed, however, will act as ex-officio member of the selection committee.

The first assignment for the new selection committee will be to select team for Chennai Champions Trophy from Dec 10 to 18. The trials to select team will be held at National Hockey Stadium on Nov 19.
