![]() Ch Shujaat receives Indian relief goods at Wagha Border LAHORE, Nov 13 (APP): President Pakistan Muslim League Ch. Shujaat Hussain has said that the impact of relief goods sent by Indian traders and industrialists for the earthquake-hit people of Pakistan will be very pleasant. " We should love and appreciate the spirit and love of Indian delegation who has come with the relief goods," he added. He said this while receiving eight trucks of Indian relief goods, worth Rs 5.2 millions including blankets, warm clothes, medicines and other goods at Wagha Border here Sunday. President Confederation of Indian Industry and known industrialist Sunil Kant Manjal handed over the relief goods to Ch. Shujaat Hussain. District Lahore Nazim Mian Amir Mehmood, Punjab Minister for Revenue Gul Hameed Khan Rokari, MNA Anwar Ali Cheema president Federation of Pakistan Chambers Ch. Muhammad Saeed, former president Iftikhar Ali Malik, vice chairman SAARC chambers of commerce Jamil Mehboob Magoon, Javed Iqbal Chaudhry, Rashid Akhtar, Rashid Saleem and many other prominent traders and industrialists were present on the occasion. Ch. Shujaat Hussain thanked the Indian delegation on behalf of people of Pakistan, army and district Nazim Lahore and invited Indian traders and industrialists to visit Lahore and Islamabad. The head of Indian delegation, Sunil Kant Manjal accepted the invitation and thanked Ch. Shujaat Hussain for receiving them at Wagha border. He said the Indian traders and industrialists were with the people of Pakistan in the calamity and they would send more relief goods. (Posted @ 23:55 PST) ![]() 20 killed, 34 injured in two different accidents in Azad Kashmir MUZAFFARABAD (APP): At least 20 people were killed and 34 other wounded in two different road accidents in Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, Police said here. Eleven persons killed and nine injured when a Rawalpindi bound Toyota Hiace coming from Bagh fell into Nullah Mahal near Arja Bridge between district Bagh and district Rawalakot. Eleven passengers were killed on the spot while nine injured -one of them critically, police added. Those killed are identified as Ashfaq, Khizar Hayat, Saifullah, Daftar Hussain, Muhammed Shafat, Ummar Hayat, Sajid Hussain, Shakeel, Khalid Mehmood, Tahir Hussain and Basharat Ahmed. The driver of the ill-fated van evacuated to hospital in serious condition. All the injured have been admitted in Combined Military Hospital Bagh and a local hospital of Arja. In another road accident nine people killed and 25 injured when a coaster coming from Patika town to Muzaffarabad fell into river Neelum while negotiating a curve near Chhal Pani, some eight kilometers from Muzaffarabad on Neelum Valley Road killing three people including driver of the bus on the spot. Six people succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. Twelve wounded passengers admitted in Abbas Institute of Medical Sciences, Six seriously wounded in American Military Surgical Hospital and four in Al-Dawah Hospital. The names of those killed in the accident could not be ascertain immediately(Posted @ 22:22 PST) ![]() Australian PM assures support for quake victims ISLAMABAD, Nov 13 (APP): Australian Prime Minister John Howard has informed President General Pervez Musharraf that he would be sending a delegation to the donor conference starting in Islamabad on November 19. Talking to President Pervez Musharraf on phone,Howard said Australia wanted to help Pakistan in this hour of trial and will send its delegation to participate in the donors conference for earthquake affectees, PTV reported. President General Pervez Musharraf thanked the Australian Prime Minister for his concern and goodwill gesture for the quake affected people.(Posted @ 22:16 PST) Tremor jolts Noshki QUETTA Nov 13 (PPI): A mild intensity earthquake jolted Noshki town early Sunday. According to details, a mild intensity earthquake rocked Noshki Town around 02:38 am Sunday. Noshki is about 80 miles west of Quetta along RCD highway. People who were sleeping got panicky and came out of their houses reciting Kalima Tayyaba. The magnitude of the shock was 4 on Richter scale. Its epicentre located 600 Km south west of Peshawar in Balochistan, Seismic Department Peshawar told PPI by telephone here today. No loss was reported form any where in the town.(Posted @ 20:45 PST) Chief Justice visits earthquake areas ISLAMABAD, Nov 13 (APP): Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry along with other judges of the apex court Sunday visited the earthquake hit areas of Azad Kashmir and NWFP to express solidarity with the affected people. Justice Javed Iqbal, Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, Justice Muhammad Nawaz Abbasi, Justice Hamid Ali Mirza, Judges of the Supreme Court and Dr. Faqir Hussain, Registrar Supreme Court accompanied the Chief Justice of Pakistan. The purpose of the visit was to extend sympathies to the affected people and have an assessment of the material damage caused in general and to judicial infrastructure in particular and further to evaluate the relief and rehabilitation measures being taken. The delegation called on the President and the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir to express condolences on behalf of Pakistan Judiciary.(Posted @ 20:35 PST) Relief work in full swing in quake affected areas ISLAMABAD, Nov 13 (APP): Relief and rehabilitation activities continued in the earthquake devastated areas while AJK government has expedited distribution of compensation money among the quake survivors. The assistance is aimed at helping the quake survivors to construct shelter homes near their collapsed houses to prevent thems from severe cold, PTV reported. The government has so far distributed more than one billion Rupees in the quake hit areas of Muzafarabad,Neelum Valley, Bagh, Rawalakot and Palandri. The process is continuing in a fair and transparent manner and is being monitored. According to preliminary analysis, the magnitude of the earthquake on richter scale was 4.0 and its epicenter lied about 200 kilometers North East of Peshawar in Hazara Division.(Posted @ 20:20 PST) Bus plunge in quake-hit Kashmir MUZAFFARABAD, Nov 13 (AFP) - A bus carrying about 25 passengers plunged into a ditch in earthquake-devastated Kashmir Sunday, killing at least two people, police said. "The bus fell into a ditch some 200 feet (60 metres) deep and hit the bank of the Neelum river" about 10 kilometres (six miles) northeast of the state capital Muzaffarabad, police officer Sardar Bashir told AFP. "We have rushed rescue team to the site of the accident and so far two bodies have been brought here," he said. He said 10 injured passengers had been brought to Muzaffarabd. An injured passenger, Mohammad Hassan, said the bus was carrying about 25 passengers.(Posted @ 19:32 PST) Quake hit areas experience 1267 aftershocks ISLAMABAD, November 13 PPI)Director General Meteorological Department Dr Qamar-uz-Zaman Chaudhry has said that quake hit areas of NWFP and AJK have experienced 1267 aftershocks so far. The medical team arrives in Lahore Sunday and would be guest at a reception to be hosted by Punjab Health Minister before leaving for Gujrat. (Posted @ 10:00 PST) Rs 57b needed to rehabilitate affected areas: NWFP minister LAHORE, Nov 12 (APP): NWFP Information Minister Asif Iqbal Daudzai has said that about Rs 57 billion was required to reconstruct and rehabilitate the quake affected areas of NWFP. Speaking at a seminar on "Earthquake impacts-present challenges and future strategies" he said vast majority of government buildings such as schools, hospitals, offices, courts, roads, bridges and other avenues had been razed to the ground and about Rs 17 billion was required to reconstruct government buildings and another about Rs 40 billion for reconstruction of houses and rehabilitation .The minister said that government is offering free admission, messing, boarding and educational facilities in public sector educational institutions to all the students from calamity-hit areas of the province.
