KARACHI, Nov 7: City Nazim Mustafa Kamal has said that no road would be constructed without making proper arrangement for drainage. He stated this while chairing a meeting of the officials and consultants of the city government’s works and services department on Monday.
The meeting decided that the construction of rainwater drains along with construction of road would be compulsorily incorporated in the designing regulations.
In the meeting, officials, designers and engineers were unanimous that rains or leakage of sewerage lines caused damage to roads and this was also one major reason for repeated construction of roads in the city.
It was decided that the shifting of utility lines would be ensured during the construction of roads so that in case these lines developed a defect, the digging of roads every now and then could be avoided. In this regard, it was decided that a comprehensive planning would be chalked out.
The meeting also decided to gear up the pace of work on development schemes, including roads.
Mustafa Kamal directed the officers and engineers concerned to ensure that all projects were timely completed and particularly the roads where traffic flow was being affected.—APP
