![]() ![]() Pakistan president Musharraf phones Indian PM over bomb blasts NEW DELHI, Oct 31 (AFP) - Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf telephoned Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday to express his condolences over the bomb blasts that rocked the Indian capital on the weekend killing 62 people, Singh's spokesman said. The spokesman said Singh told President Musharraf that he expected Pakistan to honour its commitment to ending cross-border terrorism. Musharraf told reporters India would get "total and unequivocal support from Pakistan in any investigation that India would like to carry out" into Saturday's blasts, which killed 62 people and wounded another 210.(Posted @ 18:48 PST) Britain to start citizenship test for immigrants LONDON, Oct 31 (Reuters) - Immigrants who want to become UK citizens will have to show a knowledge of British customs and history if they are to pass new compulsory tests unveiled by the government on Monday. The 45-minute "Life in the UK" tests, which all applicants must sit from Tuesday, require immigrants to answer 24 multiple questions about British life ranging from knowledge of Queen Elizabeth to regional dialects. The tests, which cost 34 pounds and can be taken at about 90 centres across the country, come on top of a need for new citizens to demonstrate a working knowledge of English. "An understanding of the British language and our way of life is vital," said Immigration minister Tony McNulty. Those who fail the test will have to take it again. Trevor Phillips, chairman of the Commission for Racial Equality, told BBC radio he was opposed to a test but said immigrants should be encouraged to develop skills to integrate into society. And two were killed in an explosion while on patrol near Anaconda base, on the outkirts of Balad, 75 kilometres (45 miles) north of the capital. "The names of the soldiers are being withheld pending the notification of next of kin," the military said.
