Commander US CENTCOM Gen. Abizaid arrives on two-day visit ISLAMABAD, Oct 30 (APP): Commander of the US Central Command (CENTCOM) General John P. Abizaid arrived here Sunday on a two-day official visit. Twenty-six killed as bomb rips through Iraqi market BAQUBA, Iraq, Oct 30 (APP/AFP) - A bomb hidden in a truck packed with dates killed at least 26 in a village market north of Baghdad late Saturday, Hospital officials said some 45 people were wounded in the attack on the village of Huwaider, near Baquba, 60 kilometres (35 miles) from the capital.Police said that at least 14 people were missing, but added that several human remains had not yet been identified.(Posted @ 23:05 PST)

Two soldiers killed, four others hurt in ambush by Philippine communist rebels MANILA, Philippines, Oct 30 (APP/AP) _ Two soldiers were killed and four others were wounded Sunday when communist rebels ambushed an army truck carrying troops in the southern Philippines, officials said. The military pursued 15 suspected New People's Army rebels. The attack took place as the army vehicle was passing a village in Surigao del Sur province's Bislig town early Sunday, military spokesman Col. Tristan Kison said. The guerrillas used land mines to disable the truck, then shot at the troops. It was not immediately clear if the rebels also suffered casualties. Bombing-claim group linked to occupied Kashmir militants: police NEW DELHI, Oct 30 (AFP) - A little-known group which Sunday claimed responsibility for a series of bombings in New Delhi which killed 61 people has links with hardline militants operating in Kashmir, a senior police officer said Sunday. The claim of the group, Inquilab (revolution), had yet to be verified, Karnail Singh, joint commissioner of police, told a press conference. "We know that it was created in 1996 and it has not been very active but it has links with Lashkar-e-Taiba," he said, referring to one of the rebel groups waging an insurgency against Indian rule in Kashmir. A spokesman for Inquilab in telephone calls to reporters in Srinagar, said the group was behind the mulitple blasts "Such attacks will continue until India pulls out all its troops from occupied Kashmir and stops inhuman activities in the state," the spokesman, Ahmed Yar Gaznavi, told local news agency Kashmir News Service. "Activists from our Inquilab group carried out the blasts," Gaznavi told the news agency, which often receives calls from militant groups operating in Kashmir.(Posted @ 19:25 PST)

Anti-India protests in Budgam, Sopore SRINAGAR, October 30 (PPI) In occupied Kashmir, a large number of people held protest demonstration in Budgam against Indian state-terrorism. According to Kashmir Media Service, the slogan raising protestors staged a protest sit-in, in front of the Deputy Commissioner Office and demanded immediate shifting of military camp from the area. Senior APHC leader, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi led the demonstration. Similar protest demonstration was held in Sopore. Youths clash again with police in Paris suburb PARIS, Oct 30 (Reuters) - Gangs of youths lobbed stones at police and set cars ablaze in a northeastern suburb of Paris in a third night of riots, officials said on Sunday. Police cordon off area in central Delhi after bomb scare NEW DELHI, Oct 30 (AFP) - Police cordoned off an area in central New Delhi Sunday after the discovery of three parcels raised a bomb scare near a school for the blind, news reports said. Privately-run New Delhi Television, or NDTV, said the parcels were found near the school in the early afternoon and police were called in to investigate and had ordered the area sealed off from the public. Chinese archaeologists find one of world's oldest observatories BEIJING, Oct 30 (AFP) - Chinese archaeologists claim to have found one of the world's oldest observatories, dating back 4,100 years ago, state media reported Sunday. The observatory was uncovered at the Taosi relics site in Shanxi province, He Nu, a research follow with the Institute of Archaeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, was quoted as saying by Xinhua news agency. At least 61 killed in New Delhi blasts: home ministry NEW DELHI, Oct 30 (AFP) - At least 61 people were killed and 188 injured in a series of blasts which rocked New Delhi, a home ministry official said Sunday. Most of the deaths occurred at the southern Sarojini Nagar market, where the blast caused a number of gas cylinders used by stallkeepers to explode, and at Paharganj, an area frequented by tourists near Delhi's main railway station. But the official said it would be "difficult" to give an accurate breakdown. A third blast occurred on a bus in New Delhi's Okhla industrial area but quick thinking by the bus driver, who hurled the device out of the vehicle as it exploded, prevented a number of deaths, police said. Death toll in Indian train crash rises to 109 HYDERABAD, India, Oct 30 (Reuters) - The death toll in the train accident in southern India rose to 109 on Sunday as rescue workers searched for more bodies at the crash site, railway officials said. Army rescuers were using microlight boats and rafts on Sunday to look for bodies."The search operations will continue for a minimum of threemore days to trace the bodies of all the dead," a spokesman of the railways said. Italian PM says he warned Bush against Iraq war ROME, Oct 29 (Reuters) - Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, on the eve of a trip to Washington, said he repeatedly tried to persuade U.S. President George W. Bush against invading Iraq. "I tried many times to convince the American president not to go to war," Berlusconi was quoted as saying by the La7 television network which recorded the interview to be broadcast on Monday. Sri Lankan military intelligence commander shot dead COLOMBO, Oct 30 (AFP) - Unidentified attackers shot dead the head of a Sri Lankan army intelligence unit near his home in Colombo on Sunday, police and army officials said. The bullet-riddled body of Major T. M. Meedin, 39, was found in a vehicle near his home in the Kiribathgoda suburb of Colombo, military officials said. Meedin had replaced Major Nizam Mutalif, who was gunned down in the capital on May 31 by a suspected member of the rebel Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), the military said.
