Gaza gunman wounded by Israeli missile-witnesses GAZA, Oct 28 (Reuters) - An Israeli missile struck a car in northern Gaza on Friday, wounding one Palestinian gunman, witnesses said. Later reports said the gunman succumbed to his injuries. Palestinian witnesses said the missile was fired after militants in the area fired a rocket into Israel.(Posted @ 21:30 PST)

Three senior officers of Navy dismissed NEW DELHI, Oct 28 (APP): The Indian Navy on Friday dismissed from service three senior officers found guilty of leaking classified information from the Naval war room. Boat capsizes in River Kabul, 4 students feared dead, 28 rescued PESHAWAR, Oct 28 (APP): At least four students were feared dead while 28 others were rescued when an overloaded boat overturned in River Kabul here Friday. According to police the boat capsized near the collapsed Machni Bridge . Police sources said a 10th class student and three other students of seven and sixth classes were feared dead. Iraq: Third US soldier killed in roadside bomb attack BAGHDAD, Iraq, Oct 28 (APP/AP) _ Three U.S. Army soldiers were killed in two separate roadside bomb attacks in Iraq, the military said Friday. A soldier died of injuries he sustained when his patrol hit a bomb in southern Baghdad on Thursday, the military said. When other soldiers arrived as a rescue team, a second roadside bomb exploded, killing another soldier, the military said. The same day, an American service man assigned to the 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward) was killed when his vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb explosion in Ramadi, 115 kilometers (70 miles) west of Baghdad, the military said.(Posted @ 20:22 PST)

58th Year of Indian occupation marked at Capitol Hill WASHINGTON, Oct 28 (APP)- Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai, executive director, Kashmir Center/Kashmiri American Council (KAC), Thursday deplored "India's "continuing illegal occupation" of Kashmir and hideous human rights violations there" on the eve of the anniversary of India's "villainous invasion launched on October 27, 1947."The event was organized by 'Rising Leaders' at the Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C. Participants represented various Congressional offices, universities and colleges. Osman Ashai and Sadia Sindhu of the Georgetown University presented slide shows about human rights violations in occupied Kashmir; and images of the earthquake victims in Pakistan and Azad Kashmir. Meanwhile in New York, a function was held to observe the Black Day under the auspices of Pakistan Muslim League. Musharraf reaffirms support for Nepal's unity, integrity ISLAMABAD, Oct 28 (APP): President General Pervez Musharraf has reaffirmed Pakistan's continued support for Nepal's unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty as well as its economic development and thanked the South Asian country for extending assistance to Pakistan's earthquake relief efforts. Saddam lawyer wants trial moved to The Hague DOHA, Oct 28 (AFP) - A defence lawyer for ousted Iraq president Saddam Hussein wrote to UN chief Kofi Annan Friday calling for the court trying him on charges of crimes against humanity to be moved to The Hague and its Iraqi judges replaced by foreign ones. Defence lawyer Najib al-Nawimi also called for the court to be given "independent and impartial international judges" and also for pressure to be put on the Iraqi authorities and their US backers to recognize Saddam and his co-defendants as prisoners of war. Cricket-Pakistan recall Shoaib and Mushtaq for England test ISLAMABAD, Oct 28 (Reuters) - Pakistan have recalled leg spinner Mushtaq Ahmed and fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar in a 16-man squad for the first test against England on Nov. 12 in Multan. The squad, announced on Friday, also includes two other leg spinners, Danish Kaneria and Shahid Afridi, four pace bowlers and middle order batsman Hasan Raza, who last played for Pakistan in November 2002 in Zimbabwe. Israel vows no restraint in hunt for militants JERUSALEM, Oct 28 (Reuters) - Israel vowed on Friday that it would not be restrained in the hunt for Palestinian militants in spite of a U.S. call to move cautiously and renew contacts with the Palestinian leadership.Israel fired a volley of missiles overnight at Gaza border areas used for rocket launches, and launched three more air strikes on Friday. Security incidents in Iraq, Oct 28 Baghdad, Oct 28 (Reuters) -.Two U.S soldiers were killed in separate roadside bomb explosions in south Baghdad on Thursday, the U.S military said. An Iraqi soldier was killed and another wounded when a roadside bomb exploded near their patrol in central Falluja. Police officer Shamil Ali said a woman and a child were killed in subsequent gunfire. In Khamishli, Iraqi Rapid Reaction Forces killed two gunmen during an operation to free about two dozen people taken hostage. Police said five of the hostages were found shot dead. Eight civilians were wounded when a bomb went off near a bus station in Miqdadiya, 90 km (50 miles) northeast of Baghdad. In Baquba five civilians, two of them children, were injured when a mortar round landed on a residential district, police said. Five die, thousands evacuated as powerful storm batters south India HYDERABAD, India, Oct 28 (AFP) - Five people died and thousands of people were evacuated from coastal areas as a powerful storm which had been hovering in the Bay of Bengal bore down on the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, officials said. Heavy rains in the past three days have also severely affected the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Egypt's Mubarak in Syria for talks with Assad DAMASCUS, Oct 28 (Reuters) - Syrian President Bashar al-Assad held talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Friday as pressure mounted on Damascus to cooperate with a U.N. inquiry into the murder of ex-Lebanese premier Rafik al-Hariri. Bomb explodes while being defused near Kashmir shrine SRINAGAR, occupied Kashmir, Oct 28 (AFP) - Window panes of a mosque and the outer wall of the revered Syed Yaqub shrine in Srinagar were damaged Friday when a bomb found near the gate of the shrine was being defused. A police spokesman said the device exploded when the bomb disposal squad tried to hook it to a long rope to move it out of the area. The blast shattered window panes of a three-storey mosque, which is part of the complex, and caused damage to the outer wall of the shrine, which houses the mausoleum of Syed Yaqoob, a revered Kashmiri saint, but caused no injuries. Oil-for-food documents 'falsified': Russia MOSCOW, Oct 28 (AFP) Some of the documents transmitted to Russia by the UN special commission investigating alleged fraud in the Iraqi oil-for-food program bore falsified signatures, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Friday. "The documents that they have shown us were falsified; they contained falsified signatures of Russian officials," Lavrov was quoted by Russian news agencies as saying. Israel minister rules out peace until next generation JERUSALEM, Oct 28 (AFP) Israel's Defence Minister Shaul Mofaz has ruled out the chance of peace with the current Palestinian leadership amid escalating violence, a newspaper said on Friday. "I doubt very much that one day we can reach a peace accord with the present leadership of the Palestinians. We must wait for the next generation," the hawkish minister was quoted as saying by the Yediot Aharonot daily. Saddam's brother pleads for cancer treatment DUBAI, Oct 28 (Reuters) Saddam Hussein's half-brother and co-defendant in a trial on charges of crimes against humanity has asked his captors to free him so that he can seek treatment for cancer, an Arab newspaper said on Friday.The daily Asharq al-Awsat said Barzan Ibrahim al-Tikriti, a former head of Iraq's feared Mukhabarat intelligence service, made his appeal in a letter to U.S. President George W. Rajasthan High Court unhappy over delay in repatriation of Pakistani NEW DELHI, Oct 28 (APP): The Rajasthan High Court voiced its displeasure over delay in repatriation of a Pakistani national even though he had completed his sentence in an Indian jail. The court gave three weeks' time and also asked the central government to fix a deadline for his release, a news report carried by "The Asian Age" said. The court passed this order while hearing a writ petition, filed by a human rights group Peoples' Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL). Pakistani national Sajid Bashir claimed that he was a journalist and had accidentally crossed the Indian border in 1991, the report said. Bashir was convicted by Jaipur's session court and sentenced to 12 years imprisonment under the Official Secrets Act. Castro accepts US Wilma aid HAVANA, Oct 27 (AFP) President Fidel Castro confirmed Thursday that Cuba would accept US help in rebuilding efforts after Hurricane Wilma struck the island. "We have no objection at all that the three US officials visit us to give their assessments and hold an exchange on these matters," Castro said on state television. US State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said the US offered on Monday to send in a needs-assessment team after the storm, which knocked out power and forced the evacuation of some 260,000 Cubans. Nine dead, seven missing in China mine blast BEIJING, Oct 28 (AFP) Nine people were killed and seven more were missing after a coal mine explosion in northwest China's Xinjiang region, state media reported Friday. The incident occurred early Thursday at the Dianzhangou Zhongxing Coal Mine, Xinhua news agency reported.
