KARACHI: Deadline for demolition of building extended

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Oct 21: A division bench of the Sindh High Court, comprising Justices Mushir Alam and Syed Zawwar Hussain Jaffery, extended the deadline for demolition of an unauthorized building on a plot in Jungle Shah, Keamari.

The petitioner, Karachi Watch and Care Society, submitted through Advocate Abdul Jabbar Korai that the court had ordered demolition but the police authorities were reluctant to provide any assistance. Police officer Jam Zafarullah submitted that the building had already been occupied by the purchasers of flats and shops. The residents sought to be impleaded as interveners through Advocate Mohammad Amin Lakhani.

The lawyers said the demolition was ordered without hearing innocent purchasers who would suffer irreparable loss if the building were to be demolished. Advocate Korai said the purchasers had been warned that the building was constructed without an approved plan and that it was grossly violative of the building rules and regulations. The bench observed that demolition should be undertaken after Eid.
