IEA action

PARIS, Oct 20: The International Energy Agency said on Thursday it would be prepared to take further action to address possible oil shortages, including those caused by hurricane damage in the Gulf of Mexico.

In a statement, the agency’s governing board “reiterated its preparedness to take additional coordinated action, if necessary, to address possible future shortages in products and crude oil.”

The decision applied to shortfalls caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita as well as other unanticipated supply losses, it said.—AFP
