KARACHI: Benazir voices anger over KU policy

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, Oct 16: The chairperson of Pakistan People’s Party, Benazir Bhutto, on Sunday expressed concern over continued disturbance at the University of Karachi due to protests against the discriminatory admission policy.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, she said the new admission policy of the KU, which required school education in Karachi a must, was discriminatory.

“Up till now a rather less discriminatory policy of higher secondary school from Karachi was necessary. The new changes further the ethnically oriented, discriminatory, divisive admission policy that is against the fundamental rights of education”, she said.

Ms Bhutto said that because of the shrinking resources a large number of non-Karachiites sought admissions in big city varsities.

Changing policy overnight and denying them admissions tantamount to depriving them of their right to education, she said.

She warned that divisive, discriminatory policies would render youth bitter and frustrated and called upon the regime to reverse its discriminatory polices.
