Faisalabad UC nazim disqualified

ISLAMABAD, Oct 12: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has disqualified a union nazim from Faisalabad on the basis of his Madrissah certificate (sanad) and has directed the Election Commission for re-election.

A full bench of the apex court, comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, Justice Javed Buttar and Justice Hamid Ali Mirza, disqualified Shaukat Ali, who won the election of nazim from union council 234, Faisalabad.

During the recent elections the returning officer had accepted Mr Ali’s documents but his nomination papers were rejected by the district returning officer and the Lahore High Court.

Mr Ali filed a plea in the Supreme Court and giving him interim relief the apex court allowed him to contest the polls and he won it.

His opponent Hamid ul Hassan Hashmi challenged his educational certificate and the apex court disqualified Mr Ali by maintaining that his Madrissah certificate was not up to the mark.—Online
