SC to take up Sonia Naz case on 10th
ISLAMABAD, Oct 7: The Supreme Court will take up a suo motu case on Monday on the reported abduction and rape of Sonia Naz by a senior police officer in Faisalabad.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry had directed the Punjab chief secretary and Inspector General of Police (IGP) on August 31 to submit a comprehensive report on the allegations of abusing Sonia Naz.
Sonia Naz through her lawyer Zulfikar Ahmed Bhutta Advocate, Superintendent Police Faisalabad Abdullah Khalid and Station House Officer (SHO) Jaranwala (Faisalabad) Inspector Jamshed Iqbal Chisti are required to appear before the court on October 10 at 9:00 am.
A detailed report of the IGP and subsequent findings of a judicial inquiry into the matter have already been submitted to the court.
Earlier, the issue was taken up by the chief justice on an application of Zulfikar Ahmed Bhutta advocate, pleading to the court to take a suo motu notice of the case.
Arrested from the National Assembly in April on the orders of the speaker, Chaudhry Amir Hussain, where she had come to seek the help of the public representatives to locate her missing husband, Sonia Naz had accused that she was raped by the SHO Jaranwala in the presence of SP Investigations.
After her arrest, she was sent to the Adiala Jail from where she was released on bail but was allegedly abducted by Faisalabad police.
Sonia Naz has also alleged that she was kept in illegal confinement for a fortnight during which she was raped and tortured by SHO Jamshed Chishti on the directives of SP Investigations Abdullah Khalid.
Meanwhile, both the police officers, suspended on the orders of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz after the scandal broke out, had charged Sonia Naz with framing them to save her husband, who was allegedly involved in forging registration documents for stolen vehicles.
Earlier, the lady had also requested the court for an early hearing of the pending matter in which she sought orders for registration of a case against those who had abused her.
