NEW DELHI, Oct 6: India’s environment minister will visit China to call for urgent action against the illegal trade in Indian wildlife products such as tiger and leopard skins, a report said on Thursday.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had directed the minister to take up the issue on an upcoming visit, the Press Trust of India news agency said.
“The minister of state for environment is expected to visit China shortly to personally take up the issue with the Chinese authorities and request them to act urgently on the matter,” Singh’s media advisor Sanjaya Baru was quoted as saying.—AFP
