Joint plan to counter drug trafficking
RAWALPINDI, Oct 5: Pakistan, Afghanistan, Britain and the United States have agreed to enhance coordination among them in order to counter the menace of drug-trafficking.
The synergy between the four states on greater cooperation was demonstrated at the second principals’ meeting of the Counter-Narcotics Working Group (CN-WG). Senior officials of the four countries met at the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) headquarters here Wednesday.
Among the proposals discussed were ways to share information on the flow of narcotics and precursor chemicals. The meeting also finalized and approved terms of reference of the working group.
The ANF highlighted efforts being made by Pakistan to eradicate narcotics. Representatives from the Afghan Ministry of Counter-Narcotics briefed the meeting on Kabul’s strategy to counter the menace of narcotics.
Representatives of CFC-A, Afghanistan made a presentation on the international role in discouraging the production and trafficking of illicit drugs in Afghanistan.
The CN-WG will meet again in Kabul in December 2005.
