KARACHI, Sept 27: A CID official was shot dead near his home in Liaquatabad on Tuesday. The slain official had also taken part in the Karachi operation.
Police said that ASI Sajjad, 42, had come out of his home near Nayyab Masjid in front of the Liaquatabad police station when unknown suspects opened fire on him and fled on a motorcycle.
Haji Sajjad suffered three bullet wounds and was rushed to Aga Khan Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The victim was posted at the CID Civil Lines, and had earlier worked at the CID Napier office.
The slain police official had taken part in the investigation of several cases of sensitive nature, a senior police official of the CID said.
KILLED: A young man was shot dead by unknown persons in Paposhnagar on Tuesday.
Police said that two armed men barged into the house of Akhtar Badshah, 28, and pumped several bullets in his body and fled.
Police shifted the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post mortem examination.
The maternal uncle of the victim told the police that they had been having a feud with their rivals, and so far several killings have taken place. Police have lodged a case at the Paposhnagar police post.
ARRESTED: Police on Tuesday arrested a suspect involved in a kidnapping drama in Garden area.
Police said Mohammad Kamran, a jeweller, was kidnapped by unknown persons in Kharadar on Monday.
The kidnappers beat him up and deprived him of 1.5 kg gold. They demanded further gold, saying they have information about his assets in Dubai. Police said that Kamran asked for day’s time to arrange the gold.
Police arrested the suspect, Mohammad Farooq, who came to collect the valuables. A TT pistols was recovered from his possession.
During the interrogation, Farooq told the police that his ring-leader, Imran, and Kamran have family terms. He told the police that Kamran had allegedly siphoned off gold from his maternal uncle based in Dubai.
FIRE: A big fire broke out in a chemical godown in Site area on Tuesday.
The city chief fire officer told Dawn that the chemical warehouse contained hydrogen per oxide and sulphuric acid. Nine fire tenders were rush to the site. The fire was controlled in four hours.
Fire fumes caused allergy to people of the area who complained of suffocation and irritation in their eyes, the fire department said.
