UNITED NATIONS, Sept 20: Pakistan on Monday reaffirmed its commitment to the reform of the UN Security Council on the basis of formula submitted by Uniting for Consensus (UFC) resolution which stipulates increase of 10 non-permanent seats in the Security Council.
Addressing a meeting of the foreign ministers and representatives, comprising the UFC, Foreign Minister Khursheed Kasuri asserted that the Security Council should be made more representative, democratic, transparent and effective.
He said Pakistan would continue to play its role in intergovernmental consultations and negotiations for developing consensus on this subject among all member states.
At the meeting, which was presided over by Canadian Foreign Minister Bill Graham, the ministers resolved to continue their efforts to evolve a consensus solution for the Security Council reform. They noted that experience of the past few months has shown that the UN membership was not prepared to support divisive approaches to Security Council reform.
They also reaffirmed their resolve to continue to work together to find a solution that enjoys broadest possible consensus.
