KARACHI, Sept 20: The transporters’ body has convened a meeting of its affiliates on Thursday to devise a course of action after its demands were turned down. In a press release issued on Tuesday, the chief of the Karachi Transport Ittehad, Irshad Bokhari, convened a meeting of its allied bodies to discuss matters related to non-payment of fares agreed between the KTI and the government for almost 2,000 buses, coaches and minibuses used during the local body elections, and non-reduction of petroleum prices on Sept 15.
Mr Bokhari said the meeting would focus its discussion on two points in order to finalize its future line of action.
He said the police had promised the KTI to make payments immediately after the LB polls.
He said Rs2.3 million were paid by the police, Rs600,000 by the election commission, Rs2.15 million by the Rangers, Rs650,000 by the Army and the remaining outstanding amount was to be paid by the election commission.
He warned the government that if the outstanding payment was not made immediately, the KTI would be compelled to give a strike call.
