ARD hits out at Musharraf’s statement
LAHORE, Sept 18: ARD deputy information secretary Munir Ahmad Khan has criticized Gen Pervez Musharraf for ‘negatively commenting’ on two former prime ministers abroad. Speaking at a press conference here on Sunday, he said giving such remarks by a head of the state in a foreign land was unbecoming of him.
He said the corruption charges, levelled by Gen Musharraf in the US a couple of days ago, had been probed during the last six years but no evidence could be produced before courts.
By giving the statement, Khan said, the army ruler had also discrediting the local judicial system.
About Musharraf’s remarks that Ms Benazir Bhutto would not have any political role in 2007 polls, Khan said that in a democracy it were the masses who decided whether one should have any place in representing them.
Counting a dozen big financial scams involving the people ruling the country at present, the ARD leader regretted that no progress was being made in investigating them.
He lamented that only politicians were being maligned for corruption though the NAB could only collect Rs400 million from them while over Rs2 billion was recovered from bureaucrats and army top brass.
Demanding the rulers to stop levelling allegations against popular leaders of the country, Khan said the government must proceed on prosecuting those against whom corruption charges had been confirmed during investigation.
He also demanded that Gen Musharraf should unconditionally apologise with the nation for his remarks against women.
