Daniyal dazzles with unbeaten century

KARACHI, Sept 17: A superb unbeaten century by Daniyal Ahsan increased Federal ‘B’ Area-New Karachi Zone’s hopes of winning the Karachi region title of the PCB Inter-district Senior Cricket Championship on Saturday.

Daniyal hammered 107 as the second-placed side piled up 340 for nine in their allotted 90 overs against Old Karachi Zone. The youngster’s 159-ball innings contained four fours and one six. Opener Naveed Khan also batted well to hit six fours and two sixes in making 73 off 113 balls.

Meanwhile, Liaquatabad-Gulshan Zone, currently on top of the standings, suffered a huge reversal to their title hopes as they limped to 140 for seven in chasing a target of 206 against Malir-Shah Faisal Zone. Slow left-armer Azam Hussain caused the damage by grabbing four for 44.

Nazimabad-Asifabad Zone were on their way to victory after reaching 121 for two in response to 193 made by North Nazimabad-Orangi Zone. Leg-spinner Raheel Waris excelled with figures of four for 48.

Our Sports Correspondent adds from Lahore: Former Test paceman Irfan Fazil took four for 26 as North Zone Whites carved out a six-wicket win over East Zone Whites in the Lahore region fixture.

A fine opening stand of 103 between Kashif Rasheed (96, 12 fours) and Adnan Butt (54) helped North Zone Blues score 296 against West Zone Blues. Leg-spinner Azhar Ali finished with five for 76.

By close of play West Zone Blues were 15 for one.

East Zone Blues collected 275 against West Zone Whites.
