Gas pipeline attacked

By Our Correspondent

SUKKUR, Sept 12: A Frontier Constabulary picket and the main Sui gas pipeline came under rocket and mortar attack in the Bhittai colony police area near Kandhkot on Monday morning.

A group of armed men from Balochistan launched the attack on the Basket check-post of the Frontier Constabulary and police set up in the area to protect the main pipeline supplying Sui gas to Karachi and Punjab.

Three rockets and mortars fired by the outlaws landed in a nearby area while one mortar did not explode. There was no loss of life or property.

FC and police officials fired back, forcing the assailants to escape.

A bomb disposal squad defused the 75-pound mortar shell which was of Russian make.
