KESC beefs up security after blast

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 12: The Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) on Monday announced that it had beefed up security at its installations in the city following Sunday’s blast that had badly damaged a 200KV main transmission line tower on the National Highway near Port Qasim.

An FIR against unidentified saboteurs has been registered but no arrests have been made. A KESC spokesman had hinted at the possibility of sabotage being behind the incident. People might have to endure continued disruption of power supply as the KESC would take a fortnight or more to repair the damage and restore regular supply to the affected areas.

Foreign experts and KESC engineers would visit the site on Tuesday after which they would decide whether the same pole could be re-erected or a new one would have to be installed. During the repairs, many parts of the city would face power outages due to load-shedding.
