Bowlers hold sway in ‘A’ Test

ISLAMABAD, Sept 12: Australia ‘A’ attack hit back strongly on Monday to leave Pakistan ‘A’ tottering at 181 for seven on the second day of the first unofficial Test at the Rawalpindi Stadium.

Dismissed for only 196 after resuming their first innings at the overnight score of 120-6, the touring bowlers made up for their side’s low total with tidy and tight bowling in the four-day fixture.

New South Wales paceman Nathan Bracken took 3-41 in a fine display in which he removed openers Shoaib Malik and Salman Butt and later added the scalp of Mohammad Sami.

Michael Lewis, spearheading the attack sent back Yasir Hameed cheaply and a well-set Asim Kamal to finish the day with 2-27 off his 11 overs. Queensland pacer Shane Watson snapped up 2-38.

It was dismal batting by the home side with the top order in particular letting the side down on a day that saw a 34-minute interruption in play because of rain.

Except for Bazid Khan who scored 30 runs and Asim Kamal (26) and Zulqarnain undefeated on 26, others around them could do little.

Earlier, Phil Jaques, unbeaten on 56 at the start of the day, batted on to score 92 but could not complete his century as he ran out of partners.
