LARKANA, Sept 12: Leader of the opposition in the Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro has said that the government could not defeat the PPP in the local body elections despite using all its resources.
He was speaking at the reception on Monday hosted by Mumtaz Sheikh, an Awam Dost Panel candidate for the office of Larkana taluka nazim.
He said that the PPP-backed candidates would win the third phase of polls.
The opposition leader said that the Sindh chief minister’s claim of defeating the PPP in all districts of Sindh would fall like a house of cards.
He claimed that the PPP would prove its strength by winning on the elections day from Larkana and Qambar-Shahdadkot districts. He criticized the government for hijacking the polls and gave everyone a chance to laugh at them.
Mr Khuhro said that unnecessary delay in announcing the National Finance Commission award inflicting a financial loss of Rs30 billion annually to Sindh.
He said that the price hike of common commodities, rising unemployment and vanishing law and order had made people’s life worse.
NOMINATION: Ratodero taluka president of the PPP, Ghulam Mustafa Agham, along with Aijaz Leghari and seven other newly elected nazims have rejected the election board’s decision of nominating Dr Shafqat Soomro for the office of taluka nazim.
They appealed to party chairperson Benazir Bhutto to review the decision.
Speaking at a press conference here on Monday, they said that Dr Soomro was a new member and had no contribution in the party. They said that local PPP leaders were claiming that Ms Bhutto herself nominated Dr Soomro, but they had their doubts.
