KARACHI:: New security system at airport

KARACHI, Sept 12: The Under Vehicle Checking System (UVIS) has started functioning at the Karachi International Airport, said a news release issued here on Monday.

The UVIS has recently been procured from Singapore and handed over by the local representative of M/s AEI, USA and M/s TeleRadio (Pte) Ltd, to the ASF.

The system produces a clear and detailed colour image of the entire undercarriage in a few seconds. This system can also detect explosives hidden in the vehicle.

After thorough testing from Sept 2 to 10, the system has now been fully operative for the first time at the Karachi International Airport.

In order to operate the system, the ASF staff got training by foreign qualified engineers.

The ASF is also planning to install the same system at the Lahore and Islamabad airports, said the news release.—APP
