KARACHI, Sept 12: Sindh Local Government Adviser Waseem Akhtar said on Monday that various factors including high cost of litigation and the behaviour of police discourage women from seeking justice against excesses.
He was speaking at a workshop on “Justice to women through reconciliation committees”, jointly organized by the Government of Pakistan and UN Development Programme at NIPA.
He said that women were also afraid of disgrace they apprehend to face after raising their voice against abuse by influential people.
The adviser underlined the need for a change in the system to ensure that women feel comfortable and secure in the society and they feel free to play their role in the development of the country.
Other speakers included Justice (rtd) Nasir Javed Iqbal, Director National Projects Riaz Ahmed and Dr Sikandar Ali Panwhar. —APP
