Six wounded by Israeli shooting ahead of Gaza pullout KHAN YUNIS, Gaza Strip, Sept 11 (AFP) - Six Palestinians were wounded Sunday as Israeli troops guarding settlements in the Gaza Strip opened fire at crowds who had been throwing stones at their positions, medical sources said. One of the victims was in a serious condition having been shot in the neck during the protests just hours ahead of the Israeli army's departure from Gaza. Several hundred people had gathered near the walls of the main Gush Katif settlement bloc which were cleared of all Israeli residents some three weeks ago.(Posted @ 21:52 PST) Fire breaks out in Sharjah, injures 81 DUBAI, Sept 11 (Reuters) - A fire broke out in the industrial zone of the emirate of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, injuring 81 workers after it spread to their living quarters, the official news agency (WAM) reported on Sunday. The fire erupted in three storage areas that contained chemical products and wood. Police said three of the injuries were serious. "At present, the United States is suffering a rising number of casualties and facing more problems in Iraq and Afghanistan," said the editorial. John Stevens, who headed London's Metropolitan Police until earlier this year, told Blair about the feared threat against him and his wife, Cherie, according to his memoirs, serialised in the News of the World newspaper. Stevens said that he was informed about credible intelligence of a plot to shoot dead the Blairs using snipers at a June 2002 parade in London to mark the 50th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the throne. As soon as he heard of the threat, "I went to see the PM (prime minister) at Downing Street and warned him we had come across something potentially dangerous", Stevens wrote.
