Thunderstorm, rain expected for the city Karachi KARACHI, Sept 10 (APP): Cloudy weather with thunderstorm and rain has been forecast for the city over next 24 hours. Maximum temperature will remain between 32 to 34 degree celsius. On Saturday, the maximum temperature recorded was 29 degrees against Friday's 37 degrees due to moderate- to- heavy rainfall here in the morning. Humidity was 77% . The city's Met observatories recorded 20 mm rain at Airport, 01 mm at Masroor, 14 mm at Sharea Faisal and 22.5 m in North Karachi on Saturday morning, Meteorological Department foresees more rains in the coming days as the monsoon was again active and above normal rains were expected during the current month.(Posted @ 23:50 PST) CNN wins court order allowing it to report on recovery of US hurricane dead WASHINGTON, Sept 10 (AFP) - CNN television has obtained a court order allowing its journalists to cover the operation to retrieve bodies of those killed in Hurricane Katrina, a spokeswoman for the US cable network said Saturday. The federal agency dealing with disaster recovery efforts had earlier said it would ban media from reporting on the recovery of those killed, saying it wanted to preserve the dignity of the dead and avoid distressing relatives. But CNN brought a case to the district court in Houston, Texas, on Friday, arguing that the ban announced by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and a New Orleans official was unconstitutional. The network said any such ban violated the First Amendment to the US Constitution, governing freedom of speech.(Posted @ 23:45 PST) Saudi king bans kissing hands of royals JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia, Sept 10 (AFP) - New Saudi King Abdullah effectively banned citizens Saturday from kissing his hand or that of any member of the royal family, saying only fathers and mothers deserved such reverence. "Brothers, there is something on my mind I want to tell you," Abdullah told delegations of princes, officials and ordinary citizens at his palace in the Red Sea city of Jeddah. "Kissing hands is something alien to our values and ethics, and is refused by free and honest souls," he said, quoted by the official SPA news agency. Iraq to close Syria border crossing BAGHDAD, Sept 10 (Reuters) - Iraq will close its border with Syria at the Rabiah crossing point, on the main road to the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, from Sept. 11 until further notice, Interior Minister Bayan Jabor said on Saturday. "As part of continuing security efforts, we have decided to close the international border with Syria, and mainly at Rabiah," he said, reading a statement from Prime Minister Ibrahim Jaafari.(Posted @ 23:30 PST) Security incidents in Iraq, Sept 10 BAGHDAD, Sept 10 (Reuters) Iraqi and U.S. troops launch attack on northern town of Tal Afar to wipe out suspected terrorists, Prime Minister Ibrahim Jaafari said. Assault started 2 a.m. (2200 GMT on Friday). Four Iraqi civilians were killed and four others wounded when gunmen opened fire on their cars as they left a U.S. base near the Iraqi town of Baquba, police said. Iraqi Police said five Iraqis, including one policeman, and two militants were killed on Friday when two small trucks exploded in the town of Mahawil, 60 km (37 miles) south of Baghdad. The explosion occurred when a police officer approached the two trucks with an occupant in each. As the officer reached the trucks, the suicide bombers blew them up. A car bomb killed four and injured 11 on Friday evening when it blew up outside a police station in a small town south of the capital, local police said. The U.S. military said it killed two insurgents and captured 10 others on Friday after clashes erupted in the town of Thulu'iya, 65 km (40 miles) north of Baghdad. Two Iraqi soldiers were killed and four injured when a bomb exploded inside a home that was raided in the Iraqi city of Samarra on Friday night. One civilian was killed and 23 wounded when gunmen dressed as Iraqi soldiers fired on a crowd in the town of Latifiya, south of Baghdad, police said. Iraqi police said earlier reports of 18 bodies found with gunshot wounds in the town were false. Iraqi police found the body of a man with the word 'terrorist' written on him in the Qibla district of Iraq's second largest city of Basra, police spokesman Abdul-Karim al- Zaidi said.(Posted @ 23:15 PST) Pakistan believes in peace with all neighbours: Shaukat Aziz Islamabad, Sept 10 PPI: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Saturday said Pakistan believes in peace with all its neighbours, which can be achieved through strength and not weakness. He was talking to visiting Bangladesh Air Force Chief, Air Vice Marshal Fakharul Azam in Islamabad. Prime Minister said Pakistan is maintaining a minimum credible deterrence and promoting use of modern technology to meet its defence requirements. He said constant upgrading of technology is essential for keeping defence preparedness at the optimum level. He said Pakistan and China are jointly developing JF-17 fighter aircraft which will have the necessary capabilities for meeting the defence requirements. This plane would also be available in export market to meet the requirements of friendly countries. The President will address the Summit, chair a meeting of the ECOSOC Bureau at the Head of State/Government level and also chair a High Level Roundtable on "Innovation and Ivestment: Scaling Science and Technology to meet MDGS". He will attend an informal Summit meeting on 'Interfaith Cooperation for Peace' met by the President of the Philippines. Other engagements of the President include a meeting with the UN Secretary General and a bilateral meeting with President Bush. On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, the President will hold a large number of bilateral meetings including with the leaders of China, Iran, United Kingdom, India, malaysia, and bangladesh. President Musharraf's engagements in New York also include: address/lunch with US-Pakistan Business Council and US Chamber of Commerce, address/dinner with AJC, address to Pakistani-American women and at Columbia University and meetings with the Pakistan community. During the visit , President Musharraf will also have extensive media engagements. According to police sources, four armed men intercepted a police van, which was bringing the prisoners back to Sukkur jail after their appearance before court on Saturday noon. The Antonov 26 was flying a route in the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo from the northwest region of Equateur to the capital Kinshasa when it came down just across the border late on Friday. The cause of the crash was not immediately clear.
