Pakistan, India to finalise Iran gas pipeline agreement by year-end ISLAMABAD, Sept 9 (AFP) - Pakistan and India Friday agreed to finalise a framework agreement by the end of the year to build a multi-billion dollar gas pipeline from Iran, officials said. The Indian side will prepare the draft trilateral agreement to be discussed in New Delhi in the second week of November, a joint statement said.The statement came at the end of two days of talks between the secretaries of the two countries' petroleum ministries.(Posted @ 22:00 PST)

People observed complete, peaceful strike: MMA, ARD leaders ISLAMABAD,Sept 09. The general strike call given by the combined opposition was by and large affective and peaceful with the opposition terming as complete success and the government declaring it a flop, the leaders of the opposition parties including Qazi Hussain Ahmed , Mukhdoom Amin Fahim, Maluana Fazl-ul-Rehman and others headed a rally in Islamabad and reiterating resolve to countinue the campaign till the acceptance of their demand, the strike call was given by ARD (Alliance for resolution of Democracy), there main demands are : restoration of the Constitution , formation of an independent election commission, end of to army’s interference in national policies.According to reports the main markets and shopping areas in major citites Karachi, Lahore, Peshawer, Quetta etc. remained closed, public transport was thin, and attendance in Schools was very short. PTCL's management transfer process to be completed this month, Hafeez tells NA ISLAMABAD, Sep 9 (APP): The management transfer process of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited is expected to be completed during this month, said Minister for Privatization and Investment, Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh. During question hour in the National Assembly here on Friday, he said the government has privatized 26 per cent shares of PTCL and intends to privatize Carrier Telephone Industries (CTI) and Telephone Industries of Pakistan (TIP) in the telecom sector.He said in the oil sector, Pakistan State Oil (PSO), Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC) are proposed to be privatized during the next one year.
