KARACHI, Sept 8: Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) on Thursday received offers from seven international companies for the supply of 50,000 tons of white sugar, a senior official said.

The bids, received against a tender issued on August 28, ranged from $357.50 to $397 per ton C&F Karachi, said Manzar Salim, a general manager at the TCP. The lowest bidder was Dubai-based Dhanji International, which offered 25,000 tons of Chinese sugar at $357.50, while Swiss-based Tridania offered the highest price of $397.

Salim said the tender result would be announced on Friday.

The TCP, which has announced plans to import 200,000 tonnes of sugar, has already purchased 100,000 and 25,000 tons of white sugar from Dubai’s Al Khaleej at $366 and $390 through two separate tenders.

It has also agreed to purchase another 25,000 tons from US company Worldwide Resources at $324. Pakistan has been buying sugar from international markets since January to cover a production shortfall.—Reuters
