KARACHI, Sept 7: More middle and low income groups are opting for mobile phones due to progressively declining tariff and competition among various companies for capturing the market.

Manufacturers are now focusing more on low cost, easy to handle mobile sets to cater to the needs of developing economies, besides producing state-of-the-art sets. Eddy Rizk, Senior Communications Manager of a global leader in mobile communication, while introducing two new products, appreciated the government policy regarding the cell phones and said that low tariff in Pakistan was contributing to its expansion.

It would drive increased mobile usage in Pakistan. Targeting at three billion people connected globally by the year 2010 by its product, Rizk said: “Universal access to communications technology is a vital catalyst for economic and social development.”

The strategy, which aims at sharply accelerating the growth of mobile subscribers by providing affordable services to wider segments of society, would be a catalyst in boosting trade activity in the country.
