KARACHI: Kidnapped prayer leader killed

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 5: The prayer leader of a mosque, who was kidnapped last week from Orangi Town, was killed allegedly by his brother. Police said that Abdul Sattar Naqshbandi, a prayer leader of Roomi Mosque, had been missing since Aug 29. Two days later a report concerning his disappearance was lodged at the Pakistan Bazaar police station, Orangi Town.

SHO Mangohpir police station said that Abdul Rahim, victim’s brother whose whereabouts were also unknown since Naqshbandi disappearance, turned and told the family to shift to Punjab. He also handed over the documents of a plot the family owned, police said.

The SHO said that Rahim’s statement prompted the family to visit the place. They found freshly dug up earth and informed the police. Subsequently, the police recovered the body of Abdul Sattar Naqshbandi from the shallow grave on Monday.

In the meantime, police added, Abdul Rahim made his escape. Police have registered an FIR and nominated Rahim in the case. Police suspected some property related dispute as a motive behind the killing.

RECOVERED: The body of a young man, who had drowned in the sea near Defence Phase VII, was washed ashore on Monday.

Rescue officials of the fire department said that the young man was identified as Rizwan. He was a resident of Landhi. They said that he was fishing near the channel when he probably lost his balance and slipped into the sea. He was accompanied by a boy, who informed the passers-by about the incident.
