LAHORE, Sept 1: Trials to select junior players for joining the national football academy will be held on Sept 6 at Qayyum stadium Peshawar, said a spokesman of the Pakistan Football Federation on Thursday.

“Players of under-13 and 16 years of age from Peshawar and adjoining areas can appear in the trials,” he said adding “the trials will be watched by a selection committee comprising representatives of Pakistan Sports Board ,PFF and NWFP Sports Board.”

The academy is being established by NWFP Government and it would be first of its kind which would serve as a modern institution to help promote the game on solid lines.

“All modern facilities will be provided under one roof to groom the talent under a long term plan “, he said.

He said during vacations, the training camp will be shifted to Abbottabad and Swat and the players of the academy will be eligible to participate in Youth Development Programme of PFF.

“Ultimately this academy will be organised on the pattern of the other football academies of the world, to start with, first it would be launched at Peshawar and then at district headquarters level,” he said.—APP
