KARACHI, Aug 31: The Sindh home department has initiated action against fake housing societies and police have been directed to arrest those selling tokens of Rs25 to Rs250 on the pretext of providing the buyers a plot in Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Rawalpindi, etc. through ballot.
This was announced by Sindh Home Minister Rauf Siddiqui while addressing an emergency press conference here on Wednesday. CCPO Karachi and TPOs of various towns were also present on the occasion.
“If a representative of any company is found selling such coupon, he will be arrested and strict action taken against the company,” he said.
The minister warned all such companies through the media to stop fleecing people immediately or face the action which included arrest, cancellation of registration and imposition of fine.
“We will not allow anyone to deprive the innocent and simple people of their life-earned income. We will take such elements to task,” he declared.
He made a fervent appeal to the people of Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur to keep a strict watch on such elements and not to be swayed by their lucrative offers.
He said people should know that how could they own a plot on buying a token of Rs25-250. By believing in such offers, they would provide an opportunity to such fake companies and societies to rob them, he added.
He said police have been alerted around public places like parks, schools, hospitals, etc. with the directive to arrest anyone found selling such coupons so that the culprits behind this racket could be exposed and punished.
Mr Siddiqui appealed to the people to immediately inform the ‘Madadgar 15’ upon finding someone selling the coupons.
He said the government needed people’s cooperation in curbing such kind of frauds.
HELMET: The home minister also warned that a citywide campaign against the motorcycle riders without helmet was being launched from Thursday (Sept 1).
He reminded general public that that those found violating the relevant rules would be challaned and made to pay a fine of Rs50.
He pointed out that police had been maintaining leniency in this regard for the last two and a half months, but now they have been directed to take action.
He said that using helmet was in the interest of bikers as most deaths in traffic accidents occurred from head injuries.
Mr Siddiqui also referred to growing number of accidents on Super Highway and told journalists that although the highway did not come under the ambit of the provincial government, he had talked to the concerned minister and DIG Highways to adopt all options to control such accidents.
In Karachi, he said, accidents were taking place due to the violation by dumpers and loaders of the directives relating to their specified routes.
He said directive had also been issued to traffic police to ensure strict compliance of rules by drivers of heavy vehicles.—APP
